    Biometric Technologies in Emergency Management: The Case of Hotels

    The hospitality industry is susceptible to emergencies and disasters and must be managed in order to mitigate potential impacts. This paper explores biometric technology and their potential usage in the hospitality industry. This paper reviews the viable biometric technologies and further with a discussion of their applications in the hospitality industry to enhance security and increase operational efficiency. Tracking employees and hotel guests may bolster emergency management response time by locating individuals, ensuring secure areas, and aiding individuals in evacuation procedures. In this study, various scenarios in which biometrics can be used are explored. The paper concludes with a discussion on the urgent need for biometric technologies to be installed the hospitality industry to reduce errors and eliminate potential terrorist activities

    Examining the Effect of CSR on Financial Performance in China: Agency Cost as Mediator

    Purpose: The aim of this study is to examinethe relationship between CSR and corporate financial performance, mainly discussing the relationship between CSR and ROA, also use the agency cost as the mediating variable, using a sample of listed companies in China to conduct the study and provide relevant suggestions for the subsequent development of the company   Theoretical framework: As for external social responsibility, the government, the media, the public and corporate governance should strengthen the reporting and monitoring of external social responsibility and establish a multi-governance monitoring system.   Design/methodology/approach: Theresearcher used quantitative analysis to explore the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable, to reflect how the independent variable affect the dependent variable, and in turn, how to improve the financial performance of firms in China.   Findings: The results showed that ccompanies should be restrained from fulfilling external social responsibility as a way of giving back to society without compensation, and should not aim to win the market through speculation or malicious collusion, otherwise it will hinder their long-term development and become a double-edged sword   Research, Practical & Social implications: The study is based on heterogeneity and finds that internal social responsibility is conducive to enhancing employee motivation, maintaining the interests of shareholders and internal stakeholders such as suppliers and customers, thus providing a favourable internal environment for green technology innovation. In contrast, an excessive level of external social responsibility fulfilment can lead to companies making the maintenance of external social relations a corporate priority and viewing external social responsibility fulfilment as a tool for speculation to gain access to the market, so that in this way companies may neglect their development.   Originality/value: The value of the study highlighted the economic agents, enterprises should actively fulfil their internal social responsibility and strengthen the maintenance of relationships with internal stakeholders such as employees, shareholders, suppliers and customers

    Backpackers Expectation and Satisfaction towards Budget Hotel: a Case Study in Penang

    Penang has been the popular cultural heritage tourism attractions in Malaysia. Penang has great potential to develop and offers its cultural and heritage products and experiences to local and foreign visitors. Georgetown is one of the most visited sites in Penang.  Georgetown is awarded the UNESCO listing for its unique architecture and cultural townscape. The variety of cultures on display within the heritage area, such as Muslim, Chinese, Indian and European, is unique to Georgetown. The city is also known as Malaysia's food capital, home to multicultural distinct cuisines, cheap and delicious open-air hawker centers. Apart from that, Georgetown also offers unique and affordable budget hotels to enrich backpacker’s experiences. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the facilities and services provided by budget hotels in Georgetown. The evaluation was based on backpackers’ opinions on the importance and performance rating of the listed attributes. This study adopted the simple random sample method of data collection. About 30 questionnaires were distributed to the backpackers during weekdays and weekends. The socio-demographic data were evaluated using Frequency Analysis. The data showed the different socio-demographic, socio-economic, and trip characteristics of the backpackers. The demographic and trip characteristics data provided the information of visitor’s motivation and activity during their visit to Penang. The Importance-Performance Analysis (IP Analysis) was used to evaluate the overall budget hotels’ facility and service attributes, and the final result has been translated into Importance-Performance action grid. The action grid showed all the 23 attributes of general and specific facilities, and services provided were plotted on the High Importance and Performance quadrant.  Attributes plotted on the action grid showed that all of the attributes were evaluated high on importance and performance suggested that the cultural village management should maintain the status of performance in all attributes area. The Ratio Analysis indicated the ranking of priority which needed special attention from the management of the budget hotels. From the analysis, availability of mini bar, hotel safe box availability, and hotel F&B are value for money were ranked at the highest priority and needed special intention from the management of the budget hotels. Overall, the result of the study was, all of the attributes were evaluated as High Importance and High Performance. The management of the budget hotels in Georgetown has to keep up the good work and maintain the attributes.  Hopefully, the findings of this study will be useful for the management of budget hotels to manage and maintain the facilities and services provided to enhance the quality of backpackers’ experiences.

    Conflict Management Styles and Organizational Commitment: A Study Among Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor Employees

    Purpose: This study aims to determine how employees manage with conflict and their commitment towards the organization.   Theoretical framework: The conflict management style and organizational commitment theory was applied in this study.   Design/Methodology/Approach: A sample of 245 respondent from PKNS employees was used in this cross-sectional study. Data was collected using simple random sampling by distributing close-ended questionnaire. All items in survey questionnaire were adapted from Rahim’s Organizational Conflict Inventory-II (ROCI-II) to measure conflict management styles as independent variable which are integrating, obliging, compromising, dominating and avoiding style. Meanwhile, organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) were used to measure employees’ organizational commitment. Data obtained were measure with the aid of Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) version 29.   Findings: Result obtained from the analysis showed that integrating, compromising, dominating and avoiding style of conflict management is statistically significant relationship on organizational commitment. Accordingly, the analysis also shows that conflict management styles has relationship toward organizational commitment.   Research, Practical & Social implications: This research will be useful to the current problem with conflict management. It will provide an additional in-depth overview of the factors involved in handling conflict and their relation to organizational commitment at all organizational levels. Fostering a good relationship among the employees will create a harmony work environment and give sense of respect between individual. This is a path that lead to a successful business and organization.   Originality/Value: This study presents an advance knowledge to the current literature on handling conflict and organizational commitment. Additionally, the findings from this study will help employees in abilities to manage conflict and further understanding on organizational commitment through conflict management

    Historical Factors Influencing Water Colour Painting Market Environment and Development in China Market Supervisor as a Moderator

    Purpose: China has a long history of art, including watercolour painting, which has garnered international acclaim. China can gain recognition for its artistic accomplishments and contribute to the global art community by preserving and promoting the practise of watercolour painting both domestically and internationally.   Theoretical framework: The tale of the development of Chinese watercolour painting is intricate and multidimensional, reflecting the impact of several historical events (Li, 2023; Yin,2022). These elements have all contributed to the creation of this stunning and lasting art form, from the rich philosophical and cultural traditions of China to the impact of aesthetic trends and technical advancements.   Design/Methodology/Approach: A total of 495 respondents participated in the survey comprised of 110 watercolour artist collectors, 220 watercolour paintings and 165lectors and business intermediaries 165. This study was a cross-sectional study where the data collection period is from August to October 2021. Using Smart PLS, the collected data is analysed.   Findings: The study revealed that watercolour painting is a popular art form among both artists and collectors. Watercolour paintings have been a popular art form for centuries, and this study confirms that their popularity remains strong among both artists and collectors. The delicate beauty of watercolours, with their translucent washes of colour and soft edges, is particularly appealing to those who appreciate the subtleties of art.   Research, practical & social implications: This study found that watercolour paintings are highly valued by business intermediaries, who recognize their potential as investments. In fact, many galleries and auction houses specialize in selling watercolours, and the market for these works continues to grow.   Originality/Value: It is important to note that not all watercolour paintings are created equal - some are more highly prized than others based on factors such as the artist's reputation, the quality of the materials used, and the subject matter depicted. Overall, this study underscores the enduring appeal of watercolour paintings and their continued relevance in today's art world

    PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS INFLUENCING SPORT PLAYERS’ PERFORMANCE IN CHINA

    Previous studies revealed that the factors that deal with the cognition of the athletes are the psychological factors, however, most essential psychological factors that lead to performance, and most of the findings are based on the relationship between one or very limited factors that are affecting athlete performance rather than considering a considerable number of psychological factors. Specifically, little attention has been given to the research aspect of sports in China, even though a large number of research are done in Western countries. The current study explores the relationship between emotion, spirituality, self-talk, self-efficacy, goal-orientation, intrinsic motivation, and sport players’ performance. A total of 308 respondents were used for data analysis through SPSS and structural equation modeling which showed that spirituality, goal-orientation, and self-talk positively influence performance and emotion negatively influences performance. Self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation non-significantly influence performance. Lastly, theoretical, and practical implications as well as limitations were discussed accordingly.  Article visualizations

    Purpose: This study delves into the examination of the multifaceted determinants that impact impulsive purchasing inclinations within the realm of online retail, while simultaneously considering the idiosyncratic disparities in consumer shopping patterns.   Theoretical framework: The concept of perceived usefulness (PU) pertains to the degree to which a customer holds the belief that engaging in online purchasing will enhance their ability to carry out transactions effectively. The streamlined layout of a website facilitates user navigation and enhances their ability to access a wide range of information.   Method: The research utilises a quantitative survey to collect valuable perspectives from a heterogeneous cohort of internet consumers.     Factors Influencing Cultural Industry Competitiveness in Anhui Province Using Porter’s Diamond Model and the Mediating Effect of Government Support

    Purpose: In modern society, culture and economy are closely integrated, with cultural industry gradually playing a more and more significant role for national competitiveness. Anhui province is located in the central plain of China of which cultural industry has developed faster and faster in recent years. However, culture and related industries still lag compared with some provinces and cities in China. There is an urgent need to improve the overall competitiveness of cultural industry in Anhui province.   Theoretical framework: This study used Porter’s diamond model theory as the underpinning theory and examined the influencing factors of the dependent variable, cultural industry competitiveness in Anhui province, with factor conditions, demand conditions, related and supporting industries, firm strategy, structure and rivalry, chance as the independent variables and government role as the mediating variable.   Design/methodology/approach: Based on a quantitative research methodology, the study utilized a questionnaire survey and manage to gain 536 respondents on the target population.   Findings: The finding from the study show that factor condition and chance have unsignificant direct relationship with culture industries. For mediating effect of government support, again, factor condition and chance show unsignificant relationship to culture industries in Anhui, China.   Research, Practical & Social implications: The study analyzes the current developing situation of cultural industry in Anhui province based on Porter’s diamond model.   Originality/value: The value of the study formulated differentiated policies to support and develop cultural industries and guide the investment directions of cultural industries in different regions of the province and promote the coordinated development of overall cultural industry competitiveness

    Empirical Study of Cultural Industry Competitiveness in Anhui Province Based on the Diamond Model

    Purpose: Cultural industry is such a profound emerging industry that developing cultural industry is the strategic task of building a modern and strong cultural province. As a strong economic and cultural province in China, Anhui province is rich in cultural resources and has a high level of economic development, which provides unique conditions for the development of cultural industries. However, the development of cultural industry in Anhui province lags behind other parts of the nation.   Theoretical framework: This study, which takes the cultural industry competitiveness of Anhui province as the research object, examines the current situation of cultural industry competitiveness in Anhui province based on the diamond model and presents a holistic approach to cultural industry competitiveness and then investigates the influencing factors that determine and contribute to the growth of cultural industry competitiveness in Anhui province.   Design/methodology/approach: this study selected 9 indicators as influencing factors to analyze the cultural industry competitiveness in Anhui province, namely, total collections in public libraries (X1), collections of public libraries owned per person (X2), number of performance by art performance troupes (X3), number of students enrollment of regular institutions of higher education (X4), consumer price indices (preceding year=100), education, culture and recreation (X5), foreign exchange earnings from international tourism (X6), total investment of foreign funded enterprises (X7), local governments expenditure, science and technology (X8), number of patent applications for inventions of industrial enterprises above designated size (X9).   Findings: The results showed the overall competitiveness factor and industry operation factor are determined as the driving factors. This study also puts forward suggestions to improve the cultural industry competitiveness of Anhui province.   Research, Practical & Social implications: The study analyzes the current developing situation of cultural industry in Anhui province based on Porter’s diamond model. Secondly, an empirical analysis was performed to determine the influencing factors of cultural industry competitiveness in Anhui province. Thirdly, on the basis of the above analysis, this paper puts forward suggestions for the development of cultural industry competitiveness in Anhui province.     The Relationship Between Urban Community Collaborative Governance and Building Resilience Cities in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China

    Purpose: This study explores the impact of urban community collaborative governance on building resilience cities.   Theoretical framework: The Synergistic Governance Theory (SGT) was applied in this study.   Design/Methodology/Approach: The population of this study is the community of Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China. The unit of analysis is individuals living in the community of Zhengzhou City. Through random sampling method, 384 community residents were selected to participate in the research. This study used a questionnaire survey method to obtain primary data for analysis.   Findings: The results of the study show that (1) there is a significant positive correlation between government regulation, corporate capabilities, social organization involvement and building resilience cities. (2) Strengthening government regulation, corporate capabilities, and social organization involvement can effectively strengthen urban community collaborative governance, which is beneficial to building resilience cities. Thus, it is favorable to building Resilience Cities.   Research, Practical & Social implications: This research will be useful in creating a new model of urban community governance that will enhance the ability of cities to cope with disasters and achieve the goal of building resilient cities. A multifaceted and collaborative urban community governance model will be developed by strengthening the collaboration of the three groups - government, corporations, and social organizations,in order to ensure that the collaborative urban community governance model promotes the city's ability to cope with disasters, thereby enhancing the city's resilience. Enhancing urban resilience can fundamentally improve residents' ability to cope with the potential risks that persist in cities, thereby resolving social conflicts and satisfying people's pursuit of a better life.   Originality/Value: This study presents an innovative form of urban community management model that provides valuable insights on the impact of collaborative urban community governance models on resilient city buildings
